Christi York uses adapted basket weaving methods with a contemporary eye and mixed media approach. She harvests and processes all of her own natural materials.

Drawn to the overlooked & undervalued while inspired by the biological complexity that surrounds us, she invites people to pause and re-consider our recent disconnect with nature.

Her work incorporates inspirations from ancient human civilizations, to Victorian era cabinet of curiosities, to ideas from modern ethnobotany and biomimicry. “Foraging for materials within the seasons, my work is quite literally tied to the cycle of the natural world. By combing the landscape and learning to identify both native and non-native plants - I am attempting to learn more about nature and weave a spirit of wildness into my work.”

2019 has been an exciting year.

Christi was awarded with an Honourable Mention prize for her piece "Petiole Vessle l" at the Sooke Fine Arts show.

She was also thrilled to be named a finalist in the Salt Spring National Art Prize with her piece "Petiole Reach (Ochre Spine)"
